Memorial day marks a very special time of year when we stop to reflect, memorialize and give thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifices for us to live and love. This year, in addition to giving thanks to our fallen heroes, consider honoring their lives by spreading love and kindness. There’s no better way to express gratitude than with the generosity of giving!

30 acts of kindness for Memorial Day:

  1. Donate to support families of fallen soldiers (here's a great list).
  2. Post inspirational and/or grateful sticky notes around your neighborhood.
  3. Pay-it-backward: buy coffee, food, or groceries for the person behind you in line.
  4. Keep change on hand to put in expired parking meters.
  5. Pay the toll for the person behind you.
  6. Send a message of gratitude to three different people right now.
  7. Put your phone away while in the company of others.
  8. Find your local Community Fridge and stock it with some food or drinks.
  9. Find your local Little Library and donate books.
  10. Call a family member or friend just to say I love you.
  11. Surprise a neighbor with freshly baked cookies or treats.
  12. Let someone go in front of you in line who only has a few items.
  13. When having a group conversation, go out of your way to make sure every person feels included.
  14. Email or write to a former teacher or colleague who made a difference in your life.
  15. Write a letter of encouragement to a child you know is having a hard time.
  16. Send a gratitude email to a coworker who deserves more recognition.
  17. Write 3 things you are grateful for in the morning and again in the evening.
  18. Offer to return shopping carts for people at the grocery store.
  19. Let your partner sleep in when it’s their turn to get up early with the kids.
  20. Write a kind/grateful/encouraging message on your mirror with a dry erase marker your significant other, a family member, or yourself (you deserve kindness too!)
  21. Make a double batch of the cookies you’re baking and bring some next door.
  22. Introduce yourself to a neighbor whom you haven't met.
  23. Donate to a friend’s favorite charity in their name.
  24. Take time out to appreciate the sunset.
  25. Pick up some litter.
  26. Write a letter to someone instead of a text.
  27. Do chores for siblings or family members without them asking.
  28. Ask someone else to pick what to watch on TV or listen to in the car.
  29. Make someone a scarf or blanket.
  30. Reach out and reconnect with an old friend.

We will keep expanding this list, so please let us know your favorite acts of kindness!
