Comment from a nurse.
Written on February 1, 2012 at 9:04 pm, by Christine
We have a saying at Knots of Love….”There is a lid for every pot.” I think it is important that we listen to comments and suggestions from nurses, doctors and cancer patients: Thank you for all the hats dropped off to our cancer infusion center a couple weeks ago.
They were all greatly appreciated and such a nice variety!
I would like to especially complement the hat that was crocheted in the Bellatina pattern with fuzzy yarn in shades of deep colors and black with a purple band and attached flower. That type of stylish hat is especially appreciated as many of the women like to have caps similar to what other women wear.

New for 2012
Written on January 28, 2012 at 9:13 am, by Christine
New for 2012: Knit & Knot in public every first Sunday afternoon of each month. Knit & Knot in public is a fabulous way to get together with friends and garner more interest for Knots of Love. We have found that groups, large or small, when sitting in parks, cafes, and coffee shops usually attract the attention from a wide variety of people. Interested people stop and ask questions about what we are making, who we are making it for, and what our purpose is.
Some suggestions:
1) Choose a high foot traffic location in your town that you are familiar with. Example: Starbucks, Peets Coffee, Coffee Bean, McDonalds or the like.
2) Call 2 or more friends who you know knit or crochet or just want to sit and chat as you work on your hats and are available on the first Sunday of each month. (You can even do this while on vacation!).
Important note: Make sure to become a customer of if you choose a business, like Starbucks, buy some coffee and they will be happy to have you knit for a few hours.
Go spread the love!

Touching Lives

Thank you and your great organization! I just took my first bald walk around the chemo floor and spied your great hats. I just wanted to admire the knitting but the nurses encouraged me to go ahead and take one, I am so touched! Sometime it really is the small things that make your day. Thanks to all your volunteers: I’m am in Chicago – and I took a very fetching green, cable knit cap! – warmest regards: Mary

What a fabulous way to end 2011!

Subject: KNOTS OF LOVE
Dear Christine, the nurse manager of our chemotherapy unit at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center has asked me to contact you to see if there would be any way that they could get another donation of your “handmade with love” caps. Word had spread throughout our chemo unit and when some of the Veterans were asked where they bought their caps, they said they were donated from your organization.
I must admit I was blown away by the beauty and creativity of each and every one of the caps we received. Your tags make it very clear that many people want to give back to our nation’s heroes for the price they have paid for our freedom. I also wish that I had paid more attention when my mother-in-law was crocheting away all those years!
Thank you on behalf of our wonderful Veterans.
Sincerely,
Gayle

Kids from Newport Academy out patient program donate caps they made to Choa Cancer Center
Written on December 14, 2011 at 6:04 pm, by Christine
An amazing visit to Chao Cancer Center today by myself and the kids in the out patient program of Newport Academy School. The kids offered their hand made caps to patients. 26 caps were donated.
In June, 2010 Knots of Love established a program where Christine and her volunteers teach young adults in drug rehab centers the art of knit and crochet. “We are helping to keep the patient’s minds off of drugs and hands busy helping others, all the while giving back in a powerful way and learning a fun skill. We are very excited about this program; it is win win for everyone involved. Giving patients an outlet like this, has been proven effective in the recovery process.” Caps are collected on a weekly basis from the Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers where they are then donated to Knots of Love’s 376 cancer treatment centers spanning throughout the country.
